The Hangyasuli: Vargyas (Vârghiş) Gorge contest was supported by MOL Romania and The Environmental Partnership Foundation, and its goal was to bring the treasures of the natural reserve into the attentionof the students living in the region. We consider that the results show great success, as almost 1,000 students signed up for the competition.
The popular environmental protection contest organized by the Green Szeklerland Association and the Lost World Environmental Protection, Tourist and Spelunking Association ended in the middle of September.
The participating students took part in an individual contest: theycompleted a workbook containing various puzzles during the summer, and sent the results to the organization. The maximum score the participants could obtain was 500 points, and an extra 50 points were awarded to those who visited theVargyas (Vârghiş) Gorge during the holidaysand sent in photosthat had been taken during the trip.
The Green Szeklerland Association has awarded prizes in two categories (grades 5- 8 and grades 9-12. The two students with the highest score won hiking gear (a tent and a headlight), and the 26students with the next highest scores in the two categories received educational gift bags. The teachers who signed up their students for the contest received the same award.
The workbooks have been edited into A4 format, so the individual worksheets can be used in classroom activities. Besides, we have prepared a package containing the detailed solutions, so the students participating in the program can look up the correct answers.
Besides the workbook, we have also prepared the other educational materials (About Caves, Hibernation, KnotsUsed in Spelunking). These workbooks were added to the other digital materials, and right now we have 1,020 pages of free-to-download digital materials on our website.
